Why was Picture This founded?

Picture This was founded because a number of schools, especially smaller ones, have difficulty finding someone to do their school yearbooks. It has been our past experience that yearbook duties fall on the shoulders of teachers or volunteers who already have too much to do and little time to do it. Most yearbook companies require that most of the pre-press work (such as layout, design, and photo placement) be done by someone at the school. This translates into a lot of expertise, time, and stress on the part of the individuals on whose shoulders this responsibility rests. Our company merely requires an individual who knows the students and can devote a few hours to easily create a yearbook with our free software.

How much will this cost?

Your cost will depend upon a number of factors, including how many books you order, how many pages per book you will need, how many colors on your cover you will want, and what cover stock you select for your cover. Books can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. Free quotes are available by either contacting Picture This by phone, or by submitting the request for a quote on this website.

When I do pay for Picture This services?

A small deposit of 20% of the book's cost will secure your order. Because our books are custom made, Picture This will accept only a certain number of schools per year. Once your order has been placed, then a second payment will be not be due until proofs have been delivered. Final payment will be due when the books are printed. Payment schedules will be set up once an order has been placed, but these schedules will be mutually agreed upon by the school and Picture This and set forth in a contract.

How does the process work?

Schools that decide to utilize Picture This services will receive a contract that will outline deadline schedules, specifications of the book, costs, and payment schedules. Once a contract has been signed, school personnel will be given photo packets and a deadline schedule. It is the responsibility of the school to ship the photographs by scheduled deadlines. The first one will consist of portraits taken by school photographers. A shipment of candid photographs will be shipped approximately two months after the first deadline. A final shipment will be shipped in the spring of the year.

When are the yearbooks printed?

It will depend on school preference. Schools can opt for a spring shipment or a fall shipment.

Does Picture This offer portrait services?

Due to logistics, Picture This does not offer portrait services. Most schools already have school photographers in place.

Can schools secure Picture This to do pre-press work and have their own printers do the printing?

Yes, if schools have preferred printers that can handle press runs for yearbooks, then they can have other printers do the printing, as long as the printer has the capability of digital file transfer.

What if my school has a limited or no yearbook budget?

Many schools offer fees for yearbooks, so this is one way of financing them. Another option is advertising, which can be challenging and stressful for school personnel, but is a viable option. Basically, this option entails school personnel offering advertising in the yearbook for a fee. Ad sizes are determined by Picture This, and the school can determine how much each ad will cost. Picture This graphic artists can then design the ads. Advertising packets will be shipped separately for schools seeking this option. Picture This will also work with school personnel who have never secured advertising and do not know where to start.

What are proofs, and why are they important?

Proofs are copies of the pages as they will appear in the book. They will include photos and copy, all set on the page. School personnel will approve every picture placement and page. Proofs will be faxed, mailed, or shipped electronically to the school; the school can choose the option. School personnel will have one week to approve or change the proofs. To ensure accuracy, two members designated by the school will be responsible for approving the proofs. These two individuals will be named in the contract, and can be changed only with written permission from a school administrator.

What about editing?

One of the advantages of our service includes editing for spelling, grammar, and punctuation for all captions. Obviously, the names of students will need to be verified by school personnel. Our yearbook editor has a Master's degree in English and has fifteen years of editing experience.
